How to Create a Year’s Worth of Content for 2016

As we enter this shiny brand new year, your motivation to achieve all you’ve dreamed of and finally hit those long-term business goals is probably high (although that might be down to all the green tea you’re drinking on your detox).
I’m going to suggest you capitalise on January’s go-getting energy by creating a year’s worth of content marketing ideas now.
Like you, I love trying new things, creating new things and getting better at the things I already do but I’m not the most naturally organised of humans. My brain just doesn’t work in a linear fashion and I don’t like to chip away at things for an entire year. I prefer to take advantage of peak times, like coming back from holiday or when a great idea strikes, to harness the energy and get things done in one hit.
If you’re like me, then creating a few month’s worth of content marketing while you’re feeling motivated now will give you more creative headspace for future ideas, buy you more time and get you a lot closer to your goals.
So let’s get to it. First, you need answer these questions:
-
What is our topic? What does our business specialise in?
-
Who is our audience? Who are we creating content for?
- What is the purpose of our content? Is it growing brand awareness or converting our existing audience?
When you know what you’re writing about, who you’re writing for and why you’re writing it, then all you need is inspiration by way of themes and hooks to hang your content marketing on.
To help, we’ve added a bunch of seasonal and timely prompts in the content calendar we adapted for you:
Read through the seasonal prompts and brainstorm 3-5 ideas around your topic and audience for each month, scheduling them into the calendar as you go.
For example, January is the month of renewal and reinvention… how are you going to capitalise on that in your content marketing this month?
To get you started, we’ve written this post with 31 Prompts to Spark Content Ideas For January (you can sign-up on the right to receive these every month of this year).
Once you’ve worked your way through the year, you’ll have filled your spreadsheet with masses and masses of ideas.
It’s that easy! The calendar also gives you a proven process for allocating who is going to do what, and when. Overall, making content creation much faster and easier. And who doesn’t want that?
So join us. Jump on the wave of January motivation, and ride that wave until it’s done.
